I've been having a hell of a time getting video playback to work on this frame, but I finally got it working, and wanted to share a couple of tips. I'm going from Apple's iMovie to the ViewSonic digital frame. From what I can tell, iMovie will not export into a compatible format. The frame says it support MPEG-4, but what I have discovered is that you need to use XviD MPEG-4 with MP3 audio. I was able to export from iMovie, then use ffmpegx to convert the movie using the "XviD [.MP4]" video codec setting, and setting it to use MP3 audio codec at 128 kpbs and a sampling rate of 44100 Hz (for some reason the default sampling rate in ffmpegx was 48000 and the frame did not like this). Although the resulting file will not play in QuickTime, it does play in VLC and in the digital frame.



And it only took me 4 hours to figure it out.

Last year for Christmas we bought several View Sonic Digital Photo Frames. Most of the frames were used for presents and the others as gifts. After a few months ours stopped working probably. The picture would fade out. View Sonic replaced it. Now the current one won't work. The screen just remains black. We will buy another Digital Photo Frame but it wouldn't be View Sonic.

The picture quality is pretty good. There are tons of ports for multiple number of devices and the frame doesn't not require any software installation. It is extremely easy to transfer pictures even to the devices plugged into the frame. The frame looks stylish. The buttons on the bottom look cool but they are sometimes hard to press. he only thing that's bad about the frame is that you can't display the pictures randomly and that's a pretty easy feature to implement. Overall great frame for the price.

I purchased this digital photo frame for myself because of the large internal memory capacity and I liked the design of it. When I received the frame and attempted to load my photos on it, it kept telling me there wasn't enough space to put even 1 photo on there. I called Amazon and they ordered me a replacement frame. The second frame came and had the memory it was supposed to have, but there was a "dead" pixel in the middle of the frame that showed up as a bright green spot in every picture. So, I called again and requested a refund. It is a beautiful, sleek looking frame but another downside is it leaves every single fingerprint all over the frame. Do yourself a favor and be cautious when ordering this frame, do some research and read the reviews and if you decide to go with this, I hope you have better luck than I did.

Unfortunately, I received this product with a major defect. The frame's software was corrupted, so picture settings could not be set, and pictures could not be displayed.



Three e-mails to Coby's online support were sent with no response.



I will be looking for another picture frame from a more reputable manufacturer!

Purchased this for in-laws. Size and resolution were good, and reviews online were positive. I should have known from the start that it was a mistake to buy this, but Christmas was coming so I stayed the course. First, the remote wouldn't work. Replacing the battery made it work better. Second, despite multiple tries from different computers, after about 143 images (resized to 800x600 to conserve space) the frame would stop transferring files onto an inserted SanDisk 2GB SD card. Only by putting images into folders of 100 images or less on the source was I able to upload all 950 of my photos onto the card. At least it worked after that. The menus are not very well designed, but things seemed OK. Now, after just two months of use, the frame doesn't work. First it stopped reading the card reliably (any card) then it just failed completely. The remote stopped working after about two weeks of casual use. I think it may have also somehow ruined the SD card (pending verification, but so far it won't read in my card reader.) I am not going to buy any other Coby digital photo frames in the future.

Picture quality is very good. But, I have tried 3 different Coby digital frames and the SD card reader on the Coby frames cannot read any of my SD cards. I have tried multiple cards, but they cannot read any of them. The same SD card works in my camera, other digital frame and even in this Coby frame if I put it in an SD card reader and attach it to the USB port of the Coby frame. This is the only reason I did not give it 5 stars. BTW, I don't use the video, or the sound so I can not speak for that. I only use it as a picture frame.

It says on the box that it plays most mp4 and avi formats.. What a joke. All videos I tried to put on it did NOT work at all or the sound was really off. I was really upset by that. The picture quality is good and the sound (when it works) is nice as well. It also generates alot of heat for such a little device but oh well.

I am puzzled by the negative reviews here. My suspicion is that some of these folks are technologically challenged or have their own wifi issues aside from the frame.



I've had this for a week and LOVE it.



(BTW - it DOES work for the MAC. You just get the software online from KODAK)



Great slideshows and I easily added music with a cheap SD card!



The biggest benefit is that online photo storage is FREE (unlike the CEIVA frame which we disconnected due to an expensive yearly fee) and sharable. Also - FREE Internet RSS links.



The only problem - getting the family to the dinner table because they are entranced by the slideshow!

I purchased the frame as a birthday present for my wife who was complaining about never seeing all the photos of the grandkids taken over the years.



Since I had a wireless router installed, I only looked at frames that had that capability. At the time ( July 2009 ) there were not that many competitors to look at. Kodak had the most installed, and also the most feedbacks on Amazon, and other sites. I was surprised that it only had a 3 star rating overall, but had the biggest customer base. Most of the negative comments were on installation, support and documentation problems. Digging into the complaints they seemed mostly centered on installation and networking issues.

Prior to ordering, I happened across a You Tube video that showed the entire process from opening the box to installing the software, connecting to the network, loading the photos, and running the frame. It appearded straight forward, and in some cases intuative or obvious. When I got the unit, I proceeded to follow the brief and somewhat sketchy installing steps. The network steps were straight-forward if you have previously added wireless devices to your network. if not, the terminology could be daunting and worst case confusing. The frame found my network, logged on and appeared just like every other device I have networked. At that point I was ready to load the frame.



Although I loaded Kodak software to control and operate the frame, I decided to use Windows Explorer to copy the photos onto the frame. It worked, but when I tried to manipulate the photos, the frame did not respond. I then switched to the Kodak software and everything worked fine. I really have no major issues with this product. I have not tried using the photos stored on the Kodak site, or other on-line photo sites. I have no reason to believe that they would not work as advertised.



My only minor complaint is the touch commands on the frame. I have the urge to actually touch the screen ( as opposed to the border icons) to enter commands. I would have liked a touch screen, but the icons work fine. Even my wife finds operating the frame easy and straight forward.



I can highly recommend the product as it does exactly what it is designed to do.

Just like almost everyone who bought this frame, I wanted it to stream from my Flickr account into my parents home.



The usability of this frame is terrible. It drops wireless connection all the time, it freezes, and the UI is awful. The Kodak software you have to use to manage the frame is also terrible. Nothing is user friendly, nothing is intuitive. Even with the latest firmware and software updates. The slide UI is ridiculous and seldom works as expected.



The lack of control over what streams from your Flickr account is also non-existent. I doubt my parents want to see all my contacts photos too.



I realized after spending two frustrating days with this frame, that handing it over to my parents would be down right evil. If I was frustrated beyond belief with it, they would be completely lost.



Run away from this frame if you are buying it for its wireless capabilities, you will lose many frustrating hours of your life to it, that you can never get back. Seriously, I had high hopes for this frame, and did my best to not let it beat me. I am now returning TWO of them. Why are you still reading? You should be running.

I've set it up to get pictures from Kodak Galery.



Unfortunately sometimes the picture gets stuck and stops moving and only restart helps.

also, if you add more pictures, they do not automaticall refres, you have to restart.

and it could be nice if you could have more sources for pictures. for example, Shutterfly is not supported, and you cannot mix sources (kodak galery, facebook and internal memory).

also, pictures are sometimes cut and not fit the screen good.



I hope they will release a firmware upgrade soon with some fixes.

We have a new baby and we bought a frame for each set of grandparents for christmas and one for ourselves. I can download pics onto my computer with my camera and upload easily to Kodak's site, then the picture automatically (after you set up an account etc..) update on the grandparent's frame - it's awesome! They love getting new pictures of the baby all the time. This is a fantastic gift!

The frame was easy for us to use although with the initial setup we needed to help out the grandparents who aren't very technically inclined. But once it's done it's great!

It is really unbelievable to me what a terrible product this is. I am on my second frame because I thought the first one was defective, but I am having the same issues with this one as well. It is EXTREMELY slow, many times not responding to the remote at all. Either the frame freezes or the screen turns black. The only button that works 100% of the time is the on/off button. It takes at least 10 tries to actually connect with kodak gallery to display pictures I have online. I really wanted this frame in particular because I have TONS of photos on kodak gallery, but it is much more effort to get it to work than it's worth. It's a nice idea, but Kodak needs to go back to the drawing board on this one . . . .

Many digital frames are now available. In searching for a frame as a gift for elderly parents, I decided to purchase a "reliable" brand rather than a newer entrant into the market. I wanted to minimize any problems and was more than willing to pay pay a premium to ensure low-effort, high-enjoyment for my parents. Granted, George Eastman's legacy is film, not electronics - but this is the 21st century, isn't it?



If you simply want an frame to display digital pictures from a flash memory card, this unit will work fine. The picture quality is certainly acceptable. However, you will be overpaying by about 2x. The wireless connectivy with the Kodak Gallery is absolutely unreliable and unusable. You could get a frame without wireless capability with 2x the display area for the same cost.



I wanted a frame that would allow me to send pictures electronically (didn't care how: web based, email, etc.) to my parents living on the opposite coast for immediate display (or even "almost-immediate" - within 24 hours - refresh). Kodak claims that with their Kodak Gallery web site, with proper setup one can upload pictures to private/shared areas and the frame will automatically be notified and download and display the pictures. And (at the time) there were no fees or subscription required (compared to the original Ceiva frame, for example, which required yearly fees). Of course, I expected that this would function without a full-time IT support staff.



As it turned out, the frame's wireless capability is terrible. I am a computer/network professional. I had no problem setting up the frame to connect to the wireless network. Upgrading the firmware was simple. Pictures from the SD memory card displayed correctly on the screen. However, the wireless connection is totally unreliable. It is not the wireless network as it is stable and the WAP is 10 feet from the frame. I contacted Kodak support, and it was a terrible experience. After going through the scripted questions and rote responses, struggling to educate the 3rd-world support personnel, waiting for return calls that were promised and didn't happen, and interminable hold times, I was finally "allowed" to call a "technical specialist" in the US. At that time I was told that unless I was using a wireless router from an approved list, I would not be supported - so I purchased an approved router. Still the same problem. Then the "specialist" said there was a problem with the Kodak web site and I'd have to wait a week for it to be repaired. Two weeks later and still the same problems. I was finally given a RMA number to return the frame for repair. Three weeks later I received the frame, with a note from the "authorized repair facility". Along with the (same) frame there was a note included stating that they had tested the unit with a memory card, checked the display, and tested to be sure the unit would establish a wireless connection. No malfunction found. They had not even tested the ability to automatically view pictures uploaded remotely to the Kodak Gallery. I don't know if they bothered to read the very specific description I included with the frame, but I doubt it.



I've given up with this item. It is now functioning as a 2x overpriced flash-memory reader with 1/2 the display size. I send a new SD card through USPS Mail every so often with new pictures. Kodak has also now changed their policies regarding storage space on the Kodak Gallery - you have to purchase a minimum amount of product from the site to avoid having your pictures deleted.



Bottom line: the Kodak brand, in my experience and opinion, is a liablity, not something that warrants a premium price. Support is terrible, product does not function as advertised, and this was a waste of my time. I can't think of any reason to purchase this item and highly recommend against it. If you want wireless picture display this will not work; if you want flash-memory picture display many other, larger, less expensive options abound.

 "Read this if you have edited your photos on the computer!" 2009-12-01

I crop, remove red-eye, sharpen, etc. almost all of my photos in iphoto on my Mac--what Sony doesn't tell you until you read the fine print in the troubleshooting section of the manual is that the digital frame does not support photos edited on the computer! So when I transferred the photos from the internal memory, some came through (strangely they were also edited), but most did not. After an hour on live chat with Sony, all they could say was that Sony does not support any photos edited on the computer.



Maybe if I used a memory card or stick? Do people not edit their photos on the computer? If there is anyone out there who can advise me on this issue, I'd be grateful--I'm frustrated and about to return the frame.

The picture display is excellent, which I believe is the most important attribute when selecting a digital frame. It is the reason I selected this product, and I am fully satisfied. That said, the image is wide screen, which is the direction the newer digital cameras are going. I am displaying the 50 to 90 year old family photos that are in an album on a shelf. Slective croping was needed to match the pictures to the display. I would recommend this product to anyone in the market for a digital frame, but you should understand the charastics of this product and the pictures you expect to display.

Looks great and you can turn off the overbearing Sony light so the whole frame is just black.



Impressed as it resizes large photos for you and gives you the choice to fill the frame (which is 16:9) or leave the photos as is. Photos look great.



However, I found the manual to be hard to understand in regard to importing to the internal menu...you get there in the end...but it's so Sony in that special Japanese way.
