I have had two of these. I had one that the screen died after a year, I then was allowed to exchange it for the exact same product and was told to make sure to turn it off every night to make it last longer. I had the second one for about 3 months before it started to freeze completely. The display freezes on one picture when an SD card is inserted and then you can't use ANY buttons or the remote. You simply turn it off and on...and can only get ONE picture to display. The product was great when it worked. Loved the beautiful frame. I'm extremely disappointed that I spent the money on this frame that DID NOT last! I hope anyone researching frames finds this useful! I wish I had been told not to buy this one! (AND Pandigital has no useful product support or customer service-I tried! They are horrible!)

This frame is a good basic frame, not too complicated to set up or load photos on. Directions are easily to understand, even my non-technical Mom could figure it out. The outside frame looks good, and it feels solid. Picture quality is *good*, not high def TV quality, but good. The original settings right out of the box are a little dark, but it was easy to figure out how to adjust the brightness.



Overall, this is a decent frame that does what it is supposed to do - easily hold and display photos.

After alot of trial and error, I tried the freeware SUPER conversion program from [...]. Kudos to erigthsoft as it worked with following settings. I used a USB flashdrive and put the converted video under a root folder simply named "videos" to hold the converted video. The Coby recognized this folder as holding video files:

Settings are critical and should be as follows from top of screen down:

Output Container AVI, Video Codec XVID, Audio Codec MP3

Encoder - MEncoder (SUPER will select this automatically)

Video - leave disable video and stream copy unchecked

Video Scale Size 320 x 240, Aspect 4:3

Frame/Sec 30, Bitrate 768

Options - check only Hi Quality



Audio - leave disable audio and stream copy unchecked

Sampling Freq - 44100, Channels 2

Bitrate 96 kps, DVD Language Track default



Output - will show summary of above settings



Right Click in Active/File Name/Streaming Link section and select raw file to be converted



Lower left click button Encode (Active Files)



Converted Video will be output to C:program files/erightsoft/SUPER/Output folder

There's nothing inherently terrible about the Colby 7-inch woodgrain digital photo frame. It fulfills the lower-priced tier well enough and does all the things that people apparently want in a digital frame (playing music, if that's important). The screen quality is just okay, but for the price I guess the fact that it's no better than a Kodak frame from I had 2 years ago is somewhat understandable, though I only paid about $80 at the time for slightly smaller frame.



Overall, anyone looking for a basic frame that does all the things that are standard (memory card or USB cable picture loading, all the basic music file types) should be okay paying for this on sale, but I'm partial to larger screen sizes with higher resolution.

I knew the instant I plugged it in and it turned on that I had wasted my money on this thing. The resolution is horrible. Perhaps I should have looked more into it but I liked the price. The picture resolution isn't crisp and it doesn't work. If you want a cheap digital frame that shows you a very pixelated version of your photos, this frame is for you. If you'd like to see even a fair representation of your photos, pay a little more and get something better.

I purchased this for my girlfriend last Christmas and included an SD memory card preloaded with pictures. It has not been unplugged since (which has cured some of my fears of longevity). As one of the other reviews mentions; there is an issue with aspect ratios. However, the only pictures that I have had difficulties with are those that are taken in vertical orientations. The vast majority of my horizontal pictures fill the entire screen and are relatively clear. I would appreciate the presence of an on/off switch but it is not a deal breaker. Over all, it is a "cute" product and most girls will probably appreciate it just for that fact. A little more stylish than most of the digital pic frames on the market. However, there are better ones out there.

I bought this digital picture frame as a gift for my wife because I knew she would like the brown and blue design on it. And the aesthetic design is by far the best feature of this item. The rest of the frame is fairly mediocre. Due to the low resolution, pictures look quite pixelated if viewed from any closer than a few feet away. Also, when I formated several pictures to the advertized resolution of 480x234, I noticed that there were black spaces on the top and bottom. Using the 16:9 aspect ratio, I later tried formating pictures to 480x270, which removed the problem. A final note on resolution: most cameras take photos with an aspect ratio of 4:3, which means that pictures must be heavily cropped or stretched to fit properly on this display. Many of the pictures I had weren't suitable because the target image would be too cropped to look correct on the widescreen frame. And pictures that were taken in a portrait (tall) mode would appear very small on the frame with large black bars on the sides. (Although with some effort you can compose two portrait pictures side-by-side with resolutions of 240x270 each.)



Other issues that I have noted with this item:

- The frame works fine with a USB drive or with an SD card, but doesn't have the capabilty of being directly connected to a PC via USB, so a card reader is required when using an SD card. Most USB drives will stick out beyond the edge of the frame and probably aren't a great solution.

- There is no brightness control. I would prefer to have a little less backlight, but no adjustment is available.

- The frame does not do any kind of randomization when cycling through pictures, it always goes through the same order. This could be desirable, such as to show a timeline, but I would rather have the option to randomly go through the pictures.

- There are many different transitions to chose from (including random). Most of them are very nice effects.



In summary, this product is just fine if you are primarily choosing it for the appearance of the outer frame. If you would like a high-quality way to display your pictures, there are better choices out there, especially if you would rather not have a widescreen display.

I love this Frame. Nice and Sharp image quality. It's a Sony!... Easy use. Just that it has less internal memory but Flash memory cards are so cheap that even 1 or 2 GB Card would be enough to fill tonnes of pictures.

No video or MP3 which I couldn't care less as I don't need those features. Only needed Share images and which is what I got. Thanks Sony.

I like the frame overall. If you have your own memory cards, you can just save images to it then insert the card on the proper slot on the frame and your are set, no need to make folders or special paths for the frame to find. I would like it if it had an USB input, it only have a miniUSB that is used to connect to a computer to save images to the internal memory which is only 256MB. It will not play images from internal and external memory, only one or the other. So when you order it make sure that you get a memory card as well. The power plug is 100-220V, so that is great for us since we are military abroad, I didn't need any external power transformer. I've had it for about 3 weeks and we only turned it off a couple nights, its been on 24/7 almost the entire time we've had it and it shuffles the images well enough to not show the same image twice before all are displayed, or at least that I have noticed. The price was excellent for a Sony product, I got it on sale, but even at regular price is excellent compared to other frames of same size with less memory or features. You can stand the frame vertical or horizontally and the frame knows how to present the picture upright with no input from you.

This was actually an impulse buy for me, and the only regret I have is not saving $30 by buying it online. The D70 has quite a few features on top of its modern and classy looks. There are several modes you can view your photos in: Full screen, calendar view, clock view (although when displayed the clock shows the time the pic was taken, not actual time), multiple pics, or just random. Or if you choose not to view photos all all you can simply have the time (analog or digital) or a calendar displayed. The resolution of the screen is very nice and pictures are represented with excellent color with no visible washout, nor do they come out too dark. You have the option of turning the illuminated SONY logo (located at the bottom of the frame) off if you so choose. I like having that option. It includes a remote, but I find the IR to be a little finicky. There is a timer, so you can choose when it auto turns on and off. You can view the pictures at random with transitions. The random is not very good though. You will often see repeat pictures before it cycles through them all. Also when the device is turned on, it always starts at the same picture. The transition time is weird also, well only 2 time blocks actually. It goes from 5 mins to 30 mins, with nothing in between, or 3 or 12 hours. My personal preference is every 15 mins, but I deal with 30.



I think it's a great frame so I'm not too upset I paid retail price for it. I'd recommend it.

I bought this to have a digital picture frame, AND to replace my aging clock/calendar device, so my review is from the "multi-function" end.



First, set-up was dead simple. Follow the simple pics on the start-up card and you're good to go. I bought a 4GB SDHC card as well, the unit recognized it as soon as I plugged it in.



Picture quality is quite good, and it's pretty fast given that I fed it unresized HD JPEGs. I like the random transitions feature, as well.



MP3 playback is acceptable, although the volume control is a bit dicey, you just seen to get about 3-4 levels of "loud".



Haven't tried video playback yet, that might be next.



The clock/calendar function works quite well, it makes a decent alarm clock. Waking to MP3s is nice. The date/time display is easily legible from across the room even with the brightness turned down.



The remote is VERY nice, I can adjust everything without having to get out of bed!



Cons: the manual is written in eye-destroying tiny print, I needed my magnifying glass to read some parts of it! The display is VERY bright, and it took some poking around to find out where the brightness control was. The UI is mostly easy to navigate, but some features (as to how to turn off music with the slide show) I had to hunt for. But these are VERY minor issues.



All in all, a very decent unit, at a very decent price.

The Pandigital PAN7000DW 7" digital photo frame is the best digital photo frame I've found yet. I've purchased 4 other models in different sizes from Axion, Phillps, Smartparts, and Opteka. All of these others had various issues (16x9 when I wanted 4x3, didn't always start picture show automatically, buggy software).



The PAN7000DW is reasonably priced (about $65 from Amazon as of 11/9/2009) as compared to the Sony models which are all much more expensive.



The PAN7000DW display is excellent -- showing 800x600 pictures crisply and vividly. The software is very good with a reasonable user interface and useful options. I like displaying my photos using their original dimensions (the optimized view attempts to maximize the amount of display used but will chop off edges to accomplish this) - you can pick the view mode you want.



The frame accurately shows the EXIF photo date/time if you want to display it. It will also optionally show the current time. It has a nice calendar w/ picture view as well as the normal full frame photo view. And it seems to show ALL your photos eventually (I had a strange problem with an Opteka frame not showing all the photos, only a subset). The remote is small and is held on the back of the frame by a magnet. The remote works well (some remotes I've used have buttons that are hard to press or control). The menu structure (frame software) is logical and well arranged.



The clock functionality and auto turn on/off functionality is useful if you have power available to your frame at all times. However, I've hooked my frame up to a motion sensing power strip in my office and the time/date gets whacked when the sensor shuts off for the weekend (the time/date seem to survive for a few minutes or hours without power but not over a weekend). So if you use your frame with a motion sensing powerstrip, forget using the clock/calendar feature.



As I've discovered with many photo frames, if you want to display pictures in a particular order, they must exist in flash memory written down in that order - this is not a visible ordering - it does not depend on file name or file creation time. If you start with a totally empty flash card (or internal frame memory) then it will be the order in which the files are copied to the memory device. Macintosh and Windows file copy routines are the fastest way to copy files but the order in which copying takes place is not under your control if you move a large number of files all at the same time - the operating system parallelizes the copying for speed but this places the pictures in different physical memory order. It is too bad that most photo frames do not allow you to display in creation date order or EXIF date order or even file name order.



The best way to lay down the photos in sequence is to start with an empty flash device. Then copy the files either one by one by hand or using an automated method that copies files only one at a time. A cmd file on Windows that can do this is like:

Alternatively you can use Photoshop Elements or some other photo management tool to export photos in sequence directly to a memory card or your picture frame.



Hopefully future photo frames will become a bit more intelligent and allow you to pick your display order.



Overall I've found the PAN7000DW to be a good value and to work as you would expect.
