 "Pretty good product." 2010-02-05

Easy to use and set up. My only complaint is that it doesn't really multitask. If you're on Pandora, and want to check the weather, it will stop pandora. The only thing it will allow you to do simultaneously is a slideshow.

 "my review" 2010-02-05

Could be a lot better, does not have a battery I did not think about it but it would be so usefull. There are a lot of features on it that are not very friendly

Alarm clock, it will only turn on to the same song every morning no random play

Randomm play, is not random if you start it on a certain song, it will always play in the same order. Wish there was a way just to play all music instead of going through all your music to start.

Video, I found a lot of my .avi and .mpeg would not play on it.

if you have to change the volume from the screen you have to wait a bit for it to change off of that menu before you can do anything else otherwise you are always stuck in volume mode.

It does have awesome quality of the picture and the sound is very very nice.

You must connect it to your wifi router, you can not do a bridge to your laptop or network it must be to the router.

This being said I think if I Were to have the option to buy again I would wait for an updated version.

"Great Internet radio and much more!" 2010-01-30

I use the HP Dreamscreen for my daily alarm clock, because of its extensive feature set (three timers, select musical wake up tunes for each, red numbers at night, etc.). I also like being able to have it off all day and it automatically coming on late at night, when I want a bedside alarm clock (like everything else, customizable). Overall the unit's user interface makes using the many features easy.

The Internet radio support, especially for Pandora, is excellent. The unit sounds good for what it is, about what you'd get from any decent plastic tabletop radio. But plug in a good set of computer speakers and you've got a cheap and easy upgrade for the audio (I tossed them under the bedside tables). The Dreamscreen is also a full featured photo frame.

Setting up the wireless networking was easy, with a well polished process. Almost any question can be answered by the full screen tutorials, located in the 2GB of onboard memory (you can free up about 300MB by deleting them).

My wishlist is similar the other reviewers':

Sleep timer for the audio

A basic browser

Ability to plug in any Internet Radio station (but HP does provide a massive selection from all over the world)

I give it 4.25 stars out of 5 and would recommend it to anyone.

"Jack of All Trades, Master of None" 2010-01-21

HP had a neat idea here, but somewhere along the way from concept to completion it lost its way.

It is too pricey for what it offers. I essence it is an expensive clock/calendar, internet radio player and 10" picture viewer, with a few other bells and whistles thrown in for good measure. The interface is time consuming and cumbersome to use and the speaker is not strong or of a very good quality. On the plus side the screen is nice and bright with a good viewing angle, and it displays photos and video nicely. And it does connect wirelessly to the internet.

Let's break it down:

1. It easily connects to my home network, after I changed the security settings.

2. It is a good photo viewer though there are better dedicated ones. It can connect to your Snapfish library...if you have one.

3. Stream music from the internet or from your home PC. However, the interface for this is cumbersome and choosing internet stations is a pain. And then there are those underpowered speakers.

4. It works as an alarm clock and you can wake up to music. Okay I guess.

5. You can monitor your Facebook account and friends' status, but you can't update yours.

6. It has a calendar. Yippee.

7. Weather reports can be accessed from the web. Nice but not essential, just turn on the weather channel.

This product practically begs for touch screen capability. If it had that, then I would say it is worth the price. But know, you are left to use either the remote or the few controls on the bottom and right edge of the screen. The menu interface is still slow to get through and overly complicated.

I am not sure who HP was targeting with the Dreamscreen. Perhaps minimalists who want to ditch their clock, internet radio, calendar and standard photo frame in favor of this. For them it would be good. Perhaps. But for the rest of us, just use your computer or smart phone. It is quicker, easier, and you can do more. Kevin Nicholls hit the nail on the head with his review. My opinion is to wait -- easier to use and more functional devices are on the horizon or are already in your home. But if you want a digital picture frame that can do other things (though not well) and you don't mind the price, then this may just be for you. I've had mine for months and the only feature I still regularly use is the photo slideshow.

"It is a Dream - the DreamScreen" 2010-01-21

I bought this for my wife, for Christmas. At first, she thought it was just another Digital Frame. She later found out that it was so much more. It may have taken some time to set it up and get started, but it is worth it. We have it displayed in our Living Room and turn it on whenever we have company. Our kids are amazed by it everyday and love the pictures that we have uploaded on it and play with the music we also uploaded on it or stream from Pandora! It's just plain great.
